Hello, a young family member is looking at getting into PC gaming and they want to purchase a pre-built system.

I have had a look at the Defender X4 as a suitable entry level gaming pc.

I have a few questions, I assume this is suitable for Minecraft,Dota2 & other source games?

Would it be better to choose the R9 270X graphics card and I assume it is compatible with the Super Flower 80+ Gold Rated 450W PSU.

How future proof is this system?

The budget is £600-700 for full pc including monitor & peripherals. I have been looking at the AOC 21.5" monitor & Zalman M300/K350 mouse & keyboard.

Thank you for your advice

It should handle those games pretty easy, especially with a 270X. 450w is more than enough for the system, the superflower unit is magnificent.

For games of that ilk the rig will handle them for years but as bigger games become played it'll start to struggle, CPU wise. As upgrades to it go, there pretty much non-exsistant (in terms of CPU), even the 8320 wouldn't be much of a leap and not being to OC the 8320 is a little bit of a waste.

As pre-builds around that price range go there isn't many options.

One idea I do have is a Z97 motherboard with a pentuim K. That'll be good for source games, and can be over clocked well... Then when upgrade time come you can drop a secondhand 4690k/broadwell equivilant in and reap the rewards. (Z97 is rumoured to support broad well CPU's)..

That idea relies on you building you own PC (if you can). Or maybe you can phone OCUK and adapt an Intel build to suit.. Not sure on the price though.
