Defense Grid 2 Kickstarter

I think I'm going to cancel mine, it seems like the entire thing has stalled, it doesn't even look like they're going to hit the first target, let alone $1,000,000.

It seems like all that might come of this is a costly expansion, it's kinda sad as I'd love to see a sequel. Hopefully they'll learn from this, go back to the drawing board and come back in six months time with a more successful attempt.

I was having a look at the comments and I'd have to agree that they had completely the wrong approach to it.

It wasn't a "Give us monies and you'll get DG2, give us more and you'll get it sooner" kind of thing. IT was just a "Give us this amount and you'll get an expansion, if we make lots more you'll actually get DG2".
And they were hoping far too much for big backers. Not to mention the whole Razer/AMD thing.

Yeah, I cancelled mine the other day after thinking about it.

They've completely gone the wrong way with it. The Kickstarter was for a full DG2 sequel to the first game, but it was a ridiculous stretch goal instead.

The only way I saw the money investing being worth it was if they hit all their stretch goals, which is completely the opposite of what it should be.

See, this is just further proof that they made the goal structure too confusing!

It doesn't matter whether they hit the $1m stretch goal or not, DG2 is going to happen [eventually], and every single backer, including the lowliest $15 backers, will be getting a copy of DG2. The $250k first goal of "DG1 new levels" is just a sweetener to tide backers over while they also work on DG2.

But I agree, they've needlessly overcomplicated the whole thing.

Hidden Path Kickstarter Comment said:
" Today, we have less than 1/2 of 1 percent of people who've purchased the original Defense Grid backing the DG2 Kickstarter."
I simply don't understand why this is so low; surely the confusing Kickstarter goal structure isn't the sole problem? :(

Oh look. More advertising for Razer. :(

I notice they've changed their backer reward to include DG2 regardless of if they hit $1 mill funding now at least.

First, you get a Steam code for a free copy of the original Defense Grid (PC) game immediately: as soon as we know you are a backer, even before funding closes. Then in December (we estimate), you'll get a digital copy of DG:Containment, and after that you'll get any new DG content funded from this Kickstarter when development is complete – you’ll also get DG2 – either funded directly from this Kickstarter or later when we are able to release it ourselves. We'll also create a new private forum for backers that you can join

I still really want a sequel, but I'm just going to wait until it hits Steam for this one. :(

Wish they had of said that from the beginning - the only reason I didn't put in to this kick start was that I wanted DG2 but didn't want to hand over money for what was looking likely to be a DLC.
