Very casual, but the Kingdom Rush games were enjoyable enough. As @cheesyboy says, the Anomaly games were good too. I'd also take a look at Revenge of the Titans, Sang-Froid - Tales of Werewolves, Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten, Prime World: Defenders, and X-Morph: Defense. Although it might not look like they fit the bill at first, the first two Orcs Must Die games are great third person action games with strong tower defense-like mechanics. They're my favourite games out of the ones I mentioned.
Dungeon Warfare - I play it on iPad but it started out on steam. There is also a squeal but a lot of fans of the first don't like it as much, I've not played it so don't know. There are multiple ways to solve many of the maps and it rewards inventive ways of using different types of traps with the different environments. Cannot recommend it enough. If you have an iPad get it on that because the touch interface means you can do many actions quicker then you could with a mouse.
Picked up Siege of Centauri recently. Its early access, made by same guys who did Ash's of Singularity. Having fun with it for now given its early access, imagine it will similarly improve over time.
