I work for O2 as some of you know, and am on good money.

I make just over £22k with bonuses, comission, incentives etc... but i feel this could be better?

I'm 20 and have a BTEC National Diploma in Media Studies, but to be honest i don't have much interest in the media business any more.

I enjoy selling, but with the market being so flat at the moment, i'm finding myself not enjoying my job as it is not exciting any more. It is brilliant at christmas time, as we are flooded with customers and i really enjoy being in the fast paced way of selling.

So my questions are -

How do you know what job is suited for you? I am a salesman with a media qualification who has a knowledge of computers (hardware and software, i can do networking but i find it tedious), and i also have a knowledge of cars including modifications and audio.

How did you find your perfect job? Did it call out to you and you knew that it was for you? (I use perfect as a very loose word as i know there is no such thing but are you happy in your job? I'm not :(

Thanks,

Andy

;) If you find a job that ticks all the boxes, let me know! You are still young and have a lot of experiences ahead of you some good, some bad. I have a n Hons in Immunology and 2 years of a PhD but I work in IT at the moment. what would I really like to do??? Ambulance tech\paramedic possibly. Still don't know :D I say if you are unhappy, start looking around. Won't hurt and you'll learn from the experience. Enjoy!

My job isn't bad but I want to quit policy and go back to working with people once more.

In the long term I am going to become a psychotherapist and I am working towards that. In the short term I want to get a reasonable job working with people where I am not so bored out of my skull that I am racking up 24.03 posts per day on OcUK

Everyone's idea of the ideal job is different. I started off working in a supermarket at weekends when at school. Hated the job, but it gave me money to go out with at the weekends, and it was really easy.

I then worked as a PI Hanlder for an Insurance company, the work is technical based which I enjoyed and the work environment was really good. Then things die down, after a few years it got boring, turned into the same old stuff, there wasnt anything different to do, and the variation of work never materialised. I got out, decided to do an OU degree in Criminology and Psychology which I have just completed and really enjoyed it.

I will be looking for a career in this field, but there is no guarantees that I will enjoy it for ever. I don't suppose many people are always happy with their jobs. There will always been good times, and bad times.

But as people have said. You are young, so there are plenty of opportunities for you to find something you enjoy.

A job that enables you to use your skills and is in your areas of interest. A job that you don't end each day dreading the next day. A job that doesn't plague your waking thoughts, and your dreams negatively. a job that pays your bills and leaves enough after that to allow you to carry out your hobbies.

Find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life.

I'm happy to say that right now I'm in that position. Technically being an apprentice I'm on average wages, but the potential of being an integral part of a small successful business is exciting. To feel truly valued and important each day is brilliant, and the work I do is precisely what I love to do.

I also get to work from home the majority of the time too, which is awesome.

I can honestly say I wake up everyday and love going to work! :)

I stubled into IT by accident. I used to do a lot of customer service work, worked in a few call centres. Then got an oppourtunity to work on an IT Helpdesk as a temp. They were after a communicator rather than a techie, and offered to train on the job. Havnt looked back since. 10 years later I'm a Project Manager and Consultant.

Its my perfect job cause I contract, I get to talk all day, and earn good money so the bills get paid and the wife and kids are happy. I have a new job in a new company every 6 months, and get to meet a whole new group of friends and colleagues. I never get caught up inthe politics, and this doesnt drag me down (like it does to all my permie colleagues)

Its a nomadic, but perfect life for me! :)

What are you an apprentice for?

Would have thought that could suck, where is the diversity of situations?

Working for myself.

I could never imagine working for anybody else. Everytime you work hard to make money the company make even more when employed. I can't live with this!

When at college I worked part time in an electrical shop selling TV's, white goods etc. and I was damn good at it. I used to do 9.5hours per week and out sale most of the 37-39hour per week full timers!

For example to have your TV setup by them used to cost around £60. I used to earn 50p.

I now run my own business and one of the services we provide is TV setup (to put it basically) and I will make all of the profit and not a crappy 50p.

I have never worked for anyone full time so cannot really compare first-hand to be honest, I just make my comparison on what friends say.

I always here my friends bitching about people at work, having no "holiday" left and all this sort of stuff. I never have to deal with it myself!

too true too true.

a job where you dont see it as working is the ideal job.

I would say I have a good job, but not perfect. I go to work and dont get up and say oh i dont want to go today, get paid a reasonable salary and enjoy much of the time whilst I am there, aswell as it being a challenge constantly.

Good job for me is something that i enjoy doing, Money isn't the biggest issue in my career prospects, I'm going for a regular soldier in the British Army, so I'll technically be taking a 4K pay drop from my current job, but I cannot WAIT to get out of working in an office. I cant stand being behind a desk for 8 hours a day and accomplishing nothing particularly interesting besides maybe fixing a few servers & desktops. I cannot wait to be suck in some **** hole of a place, running my **** off and being absolutely knackered, sounds like bliss to me lol :D.

When the earth formed millions of years ago and fish crawled up out of the sea and turned into mammals, jobs were probably not part of natures master plan. Most jobs in our society are completely unnatural existences and at the heart of any sane person I think we know that.

All you can do is look for something you enjoy doing in a place where you are surrounded by good people.

Money will always comes second to that for me.

I disagree. If I could work my balls off, stupidly long hours and long stints, but then retire at 32 like my brother, I'd much rather do that.

I guess this is technically false. As many many years ago people would have had roles within a community, albeit a much smaller community than a 5000 people office block.

There would have been hunters, mothers, gatherers, builders etc...

This still exists today, look at some insect colonies like Ants

It's part of our evolution and is simply a logical pseudo-position to be in within a society. We have our roles, much in the same way our ancestors would have had. Only difference is today is that our social evolution has soared and our roles within society reward us differently to simply getting a good slice of the ox meat. :p

For me i just find that a decent job would be 9-5 or 8-4 for me since I'm more of an early riser that when i finish i don't have to worry about the place or take work him with me and this is the only part i don't fill atm, is getting paid pretty decent.
