On the advice of many, I went and bought a Gelid Tranquillo to replace my Artic Cooling Freezer 64. I thought the Freezer was a bit loud, and I could probably shave a few degrees off my CPU temp as well.
Well, I'm hugely disappointed. Hugely. Not only is the Gelid a lot louder than the Freezer 64, it's not brought temps down (idle is even up a couple degrees), and it's actually too large to fit in my case with the sides on properly.
Basically, I would say a "quiet" cooler is not audible over the other sources of noise (aka in my case a Gigabyte 460OC). If the CPU cooler is louder than the GPU cooler, that's some pretty epic fail right there.
I use Speedfan btw, and have slowed the Gelid to about 80%. It's still far too loud.
Also well recommended were the Sharkoon 2000 rpm fans. I was amazed how loud that thing was. It's now running at 50% under SpeedFan and still I consider it £8 wasted.
Given that I want a genuinely quiet setup, I'd like some proper advice from people with working ears, if possible
The Gelid isn't quiet, but I'd like to find something that is.
Ta!
