Hello,

First of all I'm not sure whether to post this in hdd forums or here but I need help as to how to defrag my drive...
The drive was full for a long time and got fragmented, I moved half the contents of the hdd to a new hdd and have defragged things...

Now the main culprits that are left fragmented, are files in the system volume information folder, not only does defraggler not want to touch them, they also take up nearly 50gb of hdd space ( together with the pagefile)... Does anyone know how to defrag these annoying files:

And is it supposed to be like 50gb , sounds a bit much to me for system volume info...

Hmmm, I wonder if it's data resident within the MFT?

I'd try running CCleaner across the drive first, delete all unneccessary files it indicates then reboot and try Defraggle again.

You can also Google for Page Defrag from Sys Internals, which I now believe to be hosted on the MS web site. This will defragment your registry and page files. It can be set to run every boot to keep your core OS in good condition.

Things like System Restore data are held in that folder.

Add yourself to the user list and look inside.

System restore etc take up like 20 mb in total, what are all the massive files though ?

Also when I gave myself permission to view the folder, I had all kinds of access denied errors for those big files...

I don't know...

Will CCcleaner do anything tbh, never seen it want to remove 40 gb worth of stuff, only wants to clean temp files and such...

Will do, sounds good, that's what I'd really like, a page and reg defragger...

Vista32 or 64? if 32 then ONECARE Scanner (online browser version) to scan for files and errors should bring interesting results.

If it were my PC then I would turn off Sysytem Restore to delete the 50GB and then restart and defrag the hard drive. You can always turn t back on afterwards if you wish.

iirc JK defrag had a rubbish interface last time I checked.

Anyways my C drive is fixed now:

The 3 fragged files are 2 (small) temp. files and my (4.5gb) pagefile...
