Defragger for Vista x64

Hello,

I'm in need of a good defragger for my current OS. I hate the vista stock one as I can't see the progress... Does anyone know a good one ? I use Diskkeeper premier in XP, but in vista it doesn't work and diskkeeper light also doesn't. What app works fine in vista x64 ?
 
Any defragging software will move items to a temp location, evventually it will copy the stuff from there to the target location when it has freed that space up so I personally wouldn't have worried to much about it and would have let it finish.

That's not the problem, I want to see the progress and an idea about what the shape of the disk is, I cba to start a defrag and leave my pc for hours, I want to know how long it'll take and how much I need a defrag.

I can't seem to defrag my 5 hdd's at once, just 1 at a time, does anyone know a defrag that can defrag 5 hdd's at once like diskkeeper premier did in XP ?

Defragler just froze when I clicked action, defrag drive while it was already defragging, why on earth don't apps support multiple hdd's at once ? What can I do now, can I close the process without losing data? It's an NTFS drive...
 
JK doesn't really do what I want and it immediately starts defragging, except for the progress bar it's no better than windows stock one.

Does O&O support multiple hdd's at once, with progress bars for each, and possibility to first analyze then defrag, view most fragged files, and perhaps automatic defrag during screensaver etc ? ?
Also is it possible to buy it online with paypal or click and buy or similar?
And most importantly, does it work on vista x64 :) ?

Yup O&O supports multiple HD degragging, can analyze all. But then have to manually start the defrag for all. A UPS is a must though, you wouldn't want a power failure whilst all your HD's are defragging.

UPS ?

Power failure isn't bad due to the way NTFS discs defrags, it won't remove anything before the copy is in place already, I do have 2 Fat32 partitions, but they don't hold ''single essential files'' any more which is all I can lose tbh, 1 file it's defragging at that moment.

Never had a power failure in the past 10 years unless my parents done something stupid and shorted something or they ( some engineers) had to work on electricity for 2 hours and they announced it many times weeks before... But I usually defrag when my parents are vast asleep.

Can damage HD sudden power off's. Power failures are quite rare, but it has happened whilst defragging, burning off data on DVD-R's, during OS install, moving data over LAN. So for all those uses data loss and possible hardware damage would occur.
 
Ah okay, they're very rare here, near impossible during the nights... But it's a risk we all take during defrags don't we :) ?
 
Defragging in all Windows NT based OS's use low-level NT kernel functions created specifically for defragging (interestingly, they were added at the behest of what is now Diskeeper Corp as before then they had a source license to NT and released their own version to customers).

The upshot of this is that defragmentation operations are atomic - either they finish successfully or they don't, so if you have a power failure mid-defrag you'll not lose any data.

All NT based defraggers I know of use these kernel functions as writing your own NTFS driver would be prohibitively difficult for most companies.
 
Id like to offer O&O as my No.1 Choice of a defragger.

I think itys on v11 but certainly v10 ATM however, Im still using v8.6

v8.6 works in XP and Vista you see and I have both 32Bit and 64Bit versions of that.

I do have the trial of v10 however, I was never at all impressed with it.

Now, I find it to be the fastest and best defragger of them all, offering much more functions and features than any other defragger, including all the ones mentioned here and in the half-billion other threads where people have asked about defraggers, however, under Vista, I have found it offensively disgustingly slow at even trying to read my Disks info???? - Sometimes I really get bored waiting for it to do anything and in truth, under XP it defrags my entire C: before its even finished analysing it under Vista, so for Vista I really cannot say that its any cop at all... XP its fine, both 32 and 64 Bit versions are peachy but Vista is a no-no!
