Can defraging too much be a bad thing?

I think I've done it way too much, and now things are going wierd on my PC lol >.<

One of my hard disks sometimes doesn't like to work at all, a restart usually fixes that. Also my sidebar cripples and everything goes slow... a quick power off then back on usually fixes that.

It never used to do this, and the only thing i've done/changed is defragging ( too much? )

Well defragging does in theory shorten the life of your disk as it involves a lot of reading and writing. However I doubt it would have suddenly caused your HDD to fail unless your HDD was particularly weak to begin with - ie it was gonna fall over anyway.

What software are you using to defrag the drive?

PK!

Just the windows defragger

I'm running a diagnostic check on the drive now, the quick test passed - busy doing the long test now.

Hope it isn't failing, it's a western digital!
