I normally buy fresh meat but since moving in with the lass she tosses everything in the freezer (which annoys me no end) and just want to check is there anything special to do when defrosting chicken breats?

Put 2 of them in a bowl on the bench to let them defrost, need them ready by around 4-430 today.

Thanks!

just leave them out and all should be fine, if your leaving them out the night before stick them in the fridge to defrost. Then again I just leave them on the side and I've not had any problems

YOu can also give them a 5-10 minute defrost 'starter' in the microwave just to get them on their way before leaving them out on the bench. Works well if you need them quickly.

Hm....as long as that part of your house is a reasonable temperature...our kitchen is freezing and we have to leave them in water otherwise they dont defrost in the 8 hours :p

Then again, I've george formaned chicken from frozen before

If i'm stuck for time i just put them in the micro on a very low heat for a min at a time until they are defrosted,if you leave them in to long and on a higher heat they'll dry out and become tough.

There must be something hard coded into a woman's brain that drives them to freeze meat, like they're preparing for the apocalypse. Drives me up the wall as well.

If you have a fan assisted oven, turn it on with no temperature and stick the chicken on a tray and let the circulating air defrost them.

Alternatively just leave out on the side (best way is to put them on a tray so the defrosting water drains away).

As for defrosting in water, Im preying you have the chicken completely wrapped in something watertight as otherwise that is not a good idea.

I always stockpile meat in the freezer.. When ever chicken is on offer in Asda I buy loads and freeze it as I use it all the time! :)

They're organized creatures. They'll let one out to defrost the night before whereas we go up to the fridge when we're hungry. :p

Wrap them in tin-foil, put fan asssited oven to 200 degrees. When at termperature, turn the oven off, and drop in the breasts for 20-30 minutes.

They should be defrosted and not cooked by the end :)

What makes me laugh is all the men in this thread advising to defrost it "on the side" in the kitchen.

You all know that the only safe way to defrost a chicken is in the fridge between 2 and 5c right? Or cook from frozen.
What you lot are doing is growing the bacteria that leads to food poisoning. Then will blame it on that take away you had the other night.

Or we just have better immune systems to such things :p

This is one reason my GF is more ill than me 24/7

Never had a problem with defrosting...its still in the packet as well...still get bacteria but meh

This reminds when I went to a burger van the other day:

"I'll have two hamburgers and a hot dog please", I politely ordered.

The extra large lady pulls out a sausage and two hamburgers from the freezer, then places the two hamburgers under her hairy arm pits..

"What you doing"?, I asked in a shocked tone.
"I'm thawing them out luv", she replies.
You can cancel me hot dog then"

;)

This sounds slightly unsafe. But not sure why.
