Anybody up for an explanation of this flick? Got so confused, I can't even think straight now. Please, do not write simply that it was rubbish or great, I need some logic, in-depth analysis (if possible) to put the whole story together.

I can't understand how the heck he can save the ferry, if it's explosion was the trigger for Denzel Washington to go back in time? If he saves the ferry- the story does not have a reason to happen, he has got no reason to go back. Right? Does he go back twice, but in the movie we see just one time travel? What happens during each time travel (if there's more than one)?

PLEASE, HELP!!!

***SPOILER****

It was a while since I saw this but I think he does go back twice. Once to save her (there's clues to this all the way through), then again to save himself..............I think!

It's a Temporal Paradox.
Sort of like going back in time to shoot your father before you were born.

(Warning, the following is based on having watched and read way too much sci-fi)

The Multiple Worlds theory would allow this kind of thing as anything that can happen, has and will happen, so while Denzel died he was a different Denzel to the one that lived as they were parralell world versions of each other.

The thing that always bugged me about this film is why wasn't the blood DNA tested?
