Delay after pressing pc's power button

Hi,

There is sometimes a delay after pressing the power button on my pc. Atfer I press it, it turns on very briefly for about a second, then goes silent for around 5-10 secs before turning on normally.

I have noticed this happening for maybe 2 weeks now

Should I be worried?

I was thinking it could be caused by dust, havent opened the pc up for a while now
 
iirc they only do that when somethings changed in bios, might be bios settings reseting themselves. Or like you say if not been spring cleaned for a while it could be dust ...check battery on mobo
 
Cold boot problem.
If you are in the BIOS and press the reset button does it also do the same thing?
Also what board?
 
My Asus board does this also. Only when it's been flicked off at the PSU or unplugged however. So I only experience this when adding or changing components around. Not a big deal to be honest for myself anyway.

I'm sure it's perfectly normal. I've had it for years and it's never been an issue. I actually quite like the suspense that it builds, to see if you're new kit is going to work or go pop lol.
 
This is perfectly normal on asus boards, especially when power is removed at the wall, its a built in test feature.
 
My PC has has started doing this a few days ago, but nothing gets displayed onto the monitor. The monitor does have power, but no signal.

I am thinking that it might be my brand new 5 month old MSI Twin Frozer 560 or my old 520W Corsair PSU that is playing up.

I moved my PC to a new location just before it starting playing up. Before I moved it, all was okay.

I am also think that maybe the PSU are not able to produce enough juice, but it has been for 5 months. Maybe it is on its way out?

Any ideas?

This. My asus board has always been exactly the same.

How long have you had the PSU and what are the rest of your system specs? Have you remembered to plug the PCI-e connectors back in to your 560 since you moved it? Also I would reseat the RAM and the graphics card just for good measure.

Is it posting btw?

Thanks for your reply. I have had the PSU since June 2008.

PC specs:
Motherboard: Asus P5Q Deluxe
CPU: Intel Q9450
RAM: 8GB (4x2GB) Corsair TwinX DDR2 PC2-8500 (1066)
PSU: Corsair 520W HX V2 Series Modular
GPU: MSI Twin Frozer 560

I relocated the box with all components intact.

I will reseat the RAM and GPU tonight and try again.

The CPU and cooler (Noctua NH-U12P) has been attached since June 2008 as well. Worth removing, cleaning and reattaching?

Just to let you know my problem turned out to be my PSU dying. It eventually didn't boot at all. After I got a new PSU there was no delay, same motherboard.
 
Yep, I would have said PSU, either dying or not 100% to specs.
Showing my age here, but there was a problem with 939 DFI boards and IIRC Seasonic PUSs.

I've also got a Foxconn board which will do this with the Tagan 520w PSU I tried with it originally (No issues with either), so it's not unheard of.

Thanks BlueSky. I reseated the RAM modules last night and all is good now.

Such a weird problem.

I wonder if the two extra RAM modules I bought earlier this year is faulty perhaps.
