Is anyone else getting a little frustrated with software developers taking so long to update their apps for the longer iPhone 5 screen?

Maybe it's quite a complicated process but there were a select few who updated their apps within days of release. I have my iPhone 5 nearly a month now and the majority of my regular apps still don't support the i5.

I recall when the retina screen came out, and how fast all the developers updated their apps.

Ah well, I guess I should be more patient...

Pretty much all of my most commonly used apps are now updated for the iPhone 5 screen. The most notable exception is Spotify though. No surprise considering it took them almost 3 years to provide a dedicated iPad app!

I guess it just depends on what you use.

The apple developer portal has been down for the past 4 days so that wont be helping. Plus apple are not the quickest at reviewing apps, its a minimum of a weeks wait at the moment once you submit an update.

I'm quite surprised by this. I would have thought that devs would have had a heads up on the new screen to get their apps ready for the iPhone 5 launch.

Instead Apple try and keep everything hush hush about the new specs, devs don't get to prepare, the new specs get leaked anyway and now here we are a couple of weeks after launch and half my apps are using the same screen real estate as on the 3GS I upgraded from

Still waiting for the likes of Wunderlist, Whats App, BBC News, Skype...

I well shed some light on why it is taking a while.

My app has been supporting the higher res for a week now.

Developing an app is not a quick 5 minute job. It takes time to re design the UI to support the new res. After this, time needs to be taken to test the apps. Lets say 2weeks to make the changes, another week to test everything is working correctly.

When you submit an update to Apple, your update is not immediately released. It can take up to 2 weeks for an update to go through the review process. If its rejected... then the whole process starts over. Develop new code, test again... then wait another 2 weeks for the review process.

Devs had no heads up about the increased res, apart from the rumours... but you can't sink thousands of pounds based on rumours.

Customers are too cheap, they expect free or very cheap apps. Supporting a higher res in an out of cycle update is not financially beneficial.

Guess a lot of developers bought into the retina display as a clear upgrade where as the new aspect ratio which I guess still requires you to support the older display on the 4 and 4S both of which are still on sale isn't worth it.

Wonder if the new display will be regarded as much as a mistep as Siri or Maps in time.

Exactly. Are Apple screwing over the devs to a certain extent leaving these major announcements to within days of launch?

Why not have the keynote a month in advance and get everyone excited about the new screen size and get the cogs turning in the devs mind about how they can optimize their app?

If I was a new Apple customer buying an iPhone, I'd be pretty miffed as to why so many of the major apps don't even utilize this amazing larger screen they've spent millions of advertising dollars trying to convince me is a big selling point.
