Delete email from iphone, it deletes in Outlook too - How to stop that?

My missus sat last night and did a Spring clean of her email on her iPhone. It's her BT Email address she has in there, configured as IMAP.

She fired up her PC this morning and opened MS Office Outlook 2010 to find her entire BT Email Inbox email was gone, all of it that she had deleted on her iPhone last night, had also been deleted within Office Outlook 2010.

Is there a way to stop this happening? She wants to keep her Inbox email on the PC intact and only wants to keep the last few weeks of email on her iPhone because of lack of space, hence the 'Spring Clean' of the iPhone.

change the account settings from IMAP to POP

There should be a setting somewhere to not delete email from the server, although that might be the exchange activesync version

This. IMAP syncs actions done on one device to the other. Does the iPhone email client not have an option to only keep and display a certain time period only?
