Ok, daft question but when you delete something from the deleted items folder in Windows Live Mail or Outlook 2010, where does it end up going?

To be honest I would think that once its been deleted from your deleted box I would assume
its wiped off whatever server is holding it but im sure thats not the case and someone will
correct me.

Reason I'm asking is I'd like to know if there's a folder somewhere bloated with deleted items taking up space? One of my accounts has been receiving a huge amount of spam recently and I've set up rules within Outlook to manage it all which delete it as soon as it drops into the inbox. It's relentless, perhaps 50-60 spam emails a day which all take up room I imagine. I'd like to know if they do indeed take up any room on the drive.

outlook 2010 has a tab which has the option to recover deleted items, to remove completely once deleted from deleted items mail folder, will also need to be removed from the recover deleted items section also.

Im not sure how much space these take up or where the space is allocated too, the users mail profile, or the servers storage.

Items are removed from the recover deleted items folder after x amount of days, so I wouldn't worry about it too much either. As long as they are removed from deleted folder should be fine.

If this is a mail hosted on exchange you could setup a transport rule to block the mail coming in and delete it before it even hits a users in box.

if this is a personal email address or pop3 email address then don't worry about any of the above and you should be fine :D

Cheers folks, appreciate the answers. It is indeed a POP3 email addy, I'll have a fiddle around on my server with Spamassassin.
