Ok, i'm clearing everything off this computer and backing it up onto disc. Now some how i've managed to delete the wrong folder with ALL my music. Basically i have system restore turned off does this = me screwed?

I luckily have another backup but will lose so much of it. Is their anyway to get this folder back or am i screwed as mentioned

1. Stop using your computer now- the more disk activity the higher the likelihood of you over-writing your data is.

2. Find a donor computer and put your hard disk as a slave drive in it.

3. Run a recovery program such as GetdataBack or FreeUndelete to attempt to get your data back.

Good luck :)

System Restore doesn't save FILES only SETTING, if it did save files the restore points would be huge. Undeleting them mightn't work out since some of the data could be corrupt.

Personally I would re-rip it from your CD Collection or re-download it all.

-edit-

Sorry I did not read that you fixed it.

:) This thread can be closed now, yeah i realised what i said about system restore, it's only the windows files and settings.

File Scavenger 3 is amazing for getting things back like this
also "undelete" by roadkil is good (and free)

best solution is to use a non admin account and give yourself read-only access to your music folder, then when you need to add more music to it, use fast user switching (windows + L) login as admin and place the music there

I got a spare IDE hard drive i had that had windows installed, put it in and got a program got active file recovery which worked great.

I ended up losing no songs, initially i thought i lost three, but i never even though it said it had an error reading the songs from the hard drive.
