I'm similar with both CS1.6 and Everquest 1.
They both hooked me entirely for a fair while, yet now every MMORPG never compares to EQ1 and I just can't find a multiplayer FPS that I enjoy as much as I enjoyed CS1.6.
I think sometimes games just come along at the exact right time that they become that poignant in your memory that nothing else quite compares.

Same for me with Rainbow Six 3, game owes me 3 years of my life, still much better than COD4 will ever be.

My other addictions have been console based and this isnt the right forum for them.

Your story is almost identical to mine. I'd never played multiplayer before, but CoD just made me want to. I still remember those first few minutes, realising that every time I got killed there was someone out there laughing.

CoD2 was WAY better than CoD1 for multiplayer, the whole game was more fluid, more balanced, and certainly more accurate.

CoD:UO was probably the most "playable" however, the addition of sprinting, being able to "cook" grenades, and the extra levels/reworked levels were superb online/in tournaments. The only thing that let UO down was vehicles, I cannot stand the use of vehicles in FPS's (which is why I hate BF2). Luckily, vehicles and vehicle levels were discarded for use in decent tournaments.

Call of Duty was quite possibly my favorite game ever... I was good at the multiplayer, and I was totally addicted to the single player campaign - I completed it with like three 20 minute breaks. Usually I don't play a game for 20 minutes straight, forget about complete the whole thing in a day.

So yeah, I liked CoD 1, t'was great :) Simple, but a really good game. CoD2 was more of the same - not quite as good, but the multiplayer was probably a slight improvement... although I didn't seem as good at it.

Call of duty UO is still unbeaten in gameplay.

CoD2 was a half assed game, released without PB and still has hitbox issues etc

CoD4 is a let down, seems to have been dumbed down for console tards

But ya, Medal of Honour Allied Assault Spearhead got me hooked, then UO :)

edit: Another great thing about cod1 and uo was the singleplayer was huge, unlike cod2 and cod4 - Oh and the maps on the latter were poor.

Don't agree with that - COD 4 is superb online

Was SOF1 for me. Then DAOC. Nothing will ever compare to DAOC in my eyes. The first MMO you play is an amazing experience. You just can never be prepared for the size of the community and the number of people running around.

I learnt my lesson with MMO's now though. I certainly wont be putting that sort of time into a game again.

Counter Strike Beta 5.2 - 6.2 was the best gaming era in my little life :), I had some immense fun and the community was fantastic back then. Hours would fly by and there was times where i was literally in tears laughing at some of the stuff we used to do.

Played a lot of wow but it doesnt have the same feeling i got from CS back then.

Not many games hook me the way CS did

Cod 2 online was the beginning of the pc version being nothing more than a port over, or at least retaining all the crap that made the game dumbed down to console levels. Regenerating health, mad amounts of grenade spam, recoil on some weapons being practically non existant. cod1 >>>>cod2 by a large margin.

In terms of games that got me hooked though, probably the original versions of day of defeat, later versions on source not so much, needs badly updated. COD 1 also, was in a clan playing that and had a lot of fun.

I'm afraid I too was one of the victims of CS! Beta 7.1 was an utter delight to play and I was hooked all the way through to the latter (non-beta) versions. These were the days when most people ran off 56k modems and obtaining a ping of sub 200 was always considered an impressive feat. It's almost as if the introducion of adsl has sanitised the community some what. Or maybe I'm just getting old! ;)

CoD1, CoD2 and CoD4 were good because Infiniti Ward made them (PC Game Makers ) CoD3 was not as good as was not made by them and was made by a Console Game Maker.

CoD5 is said to be back to WW2 genre and awarded to the same outfit as CoD3. :(

But they says CoD6 will be awarded to Infiniti Ward.
