Max RAM is 1.5GB and easy to upgrade although DDR is very expensive around £70-80. Could get 4GB of DDR2 for 1GB of DDR.

To put a new drive in you will basically have to take the whole machine apart.

Might be worth looking at a Macbook as the cost of DDR and suitable ATA HDDs plus the hassle of taking an iBook apart and putting back together might not be worth it.

No idea on cost of installation if Apple won't do it, find an Apple reseller or specialist who might be able to do it. It is a good 1-2 hours work at least.

I got a 1GB SODIMM for mine on MM here a while ago for about £20. Installation was painless.

I've been looking at upgrading the HDD since I bought my iBook but it's a ridiculous process that involves taking the whole thing apart, prising off the majority of the white plastic in the process, which I'd rather not do :(
