That voltage should be fine for the CPU, i am running at 1.45 iirc @ 3.42GHz and it is fine.

You could give a small boost to the MCH and FSB as it wont do it any harm to try, just dont go overboard.

Download Prime95 and run a stress test to see what load temps you are getting... 1.425 volts is not a problem assumming that the CPU isnt getting to hot, "to hot" is probably around 70c, but the CPU will go to 100c..

Not sure if Orthos loads all 4 cores? so you might want to just check that...

Have a lapped Ultra 120 Extreme and my Q6600 is also lapped...

Fanwise I have 3 Delta EFB1212SHE, One on the Delta, One Front mounted and ducted for the Heatsink fan and one as an exaust behind the fan.. piccy here.

Also your Q6600 is the B3 steping which run hotter than the G0

I couldnt work out how to use Orthos on all four cores, tried creating a new folder and making a new shortcut etc, but it only ever loaded 2 of the cores.
In the end i just went for Prime95 and it loads all the cores fine.

If it just dies - turns off completely, it's almost certainly the CPU not getting enough juice or overheating as the chipset usually gives bluescreens or lockups.

Check you haven't got any of the thermal controls turned on too low so it shuts down thinking it's overheating or anything silly like that.

hi guyz,

I am currently tinkering with a new motherboard.

Running a Q6600 (b3) and 4 sticks of (1.8v geil)
@ 8 x 400, 3.2gig with a 1600fsb.

The cpu voltage is set to 1.425 and its stable in orthos,
But once or twice on restart it has turned off rather than restarting, do I need to increase the MCH and FSB on these board by much?
Be interested in anyone running similar setup.

Thanks - happy xmas btw :D

I had pretty much a similar setup Just have a G0 stepping
I upped the DDr2 voltage to about 2v as it was 4X1gb sticks
had CPU set at 1.4V exact
8X400 3.2GHz
ran for over 8 hours of prime and no issues

From my experience I've had similar problems with refusing to restart and sometimes failing on cold starts when i have pushed memory timings too far. my system is duel core though and only two sticks of ram.
