I dont actually know as currently my dvd player on my computer is region locked so im having to use my dvd player via component. Hate the fact that they all come in different ratios. they should have 2 different types. 4:9 and 16:whatever it is. letterboxes annoy me

Nvidias Purevideo makes a big difference as well.

Be prepared to tweak fffdshow for months YES months as it can take a lot of testing to find the best image for your PC as you can tweak every single parameter of the DVD image. Some settings will bring the fastest CPU + Gfx card to its knees @1920x1200!

Just using the ffdshow resize to get the image to native helps quite a bit.

Anyway of using the nvidia purevideo on an ATI?

Dont think so as it looks for the nvidia chipset. ATI has AVIVO for this.

I will second this. It works really will for me too.
