I have the choice of either chip, mainly for desktop use, dreamweaver, surfing and the odd, game, which one you reckon?

You use for computer for nothing intensive, apart from the odd game, there is no point shelling out for either of those, they are so much more than you need.

Why waste money on something that you are not going to get the benefit of having?

It's like buying a car and not having a license...

Just get a 3200+ or a 3700+, really, there is no need to waste money.

Future proofing perhaps... and it depends on what processor he is currently using i guess

So i'd say a bit like buying a car just before you take your test :p

I would say for those apps get the Opteron 146 and overclock it to say 2.6ghz and leave it.

Dual core seems pointless unless a lot of what you do is multi tasking.

If it does then obviously the X2 3800+ is better but if it isn't it would be a waste of money.

Or buy an x2 3800+, clock it up to 2.6ghz and leave it??

Clock the 3800x2 and you'll have a processor thats very fast in both games and multitasking, enough said, go buy one.

^^ Ditto. I'll propably keep my x2 [email protected] out 2007, then it's time to go quad :D . I think 2.8ghz, aka fx-60(considering the extra cache), is going to hold out a long time...
