X2 3800! They clock rather well too. You should get 2.5ghz on stock cooling.
They are very nice processors.

I have the choice of either chip, mainly for desktop use, dreamweaver, surfing and the odd, game, which one you reckon?

You use for computer for nothing intensive, apart from the odd game, there is no point shelling out for either of those, they are so much more than you need.

Why waste money on something that you are not going to get the benefit of having?

It's like buying a car and not having a license...

Just get a 3200+ or a 3700+, really, there is no need to waste money.

Not much point in getting the 4000 x2 as you can easily OC the 3800 to 4400 speeds (doing that now infact)

Since the X2 4000 doesnt exist I think you'll have to go with the 3800

On am2 x2 4000+ will come . It by far looks like the most interesting one, at 2ghz and 1mbx2 l2 cache

I would say for those apps get the Opteron 146 and overclock it to say 2.6ghz and leave it.

Dual core seems pointless unless a lot of what you do is multi tasking.

If it does then obviously the X2 3800+ is better but if it isn't it would be a waste of money.

For multithreaded apps yes, otherwise the x2 3800 is slower due to lower clock speed than your 4000

^^ Ditto. I'll propably keep my x2 [email protected] out 2007, then it's time to go quad . I think 2.8ghz, aka fx-60(considering the extra cache), is going to hold out a long time...
