Just so happens I have one arriving tomorrow to help me sort out some problems with the the subwoofer in my cinema room.

you can go for a simple option of plugging it inline & manually adjust it or go for the over the top option like myself, SPL meter, room EQ software to calculate a correction filter & midi connection to the BFD to auto apply them..

You're probably thinking of a graphic equaliser, which is a multi-band tone control.

The Behringer unit mentioned looks interesting. It's a parametric equaliser - a more sophisticated type of tone control.

You may be able to fix your bass problem without spending any cash. Try moving the offending speaker away from the wall. If it isn't on a proper stand, try raising it a few inches on a pile of books. If it's on a shelf or a cabinet, isolate it on some blobs of blu-tak, and move it to the front of the shelf.
