I dont play 2142 but can answer some of your questions anyway;

Objectives give you points, so try to be in/with a squad going around the map doing useful things. Dropping ammo is useful, but only to people that need it. Medics etc will get your a fair amount of points and a win if youre good.

Unlocks just depend on the server, some will allow, some wont. official ones generally do

not so sure on the vehical specialisation, but from the brief time i did play, big > small

the winning commander still gets 2x points at the end? squad leaders dont necessarily get more points, but they get a broader range afaik which could give you a larger net gain on points.
 
Your upgrades are probably due to Field Upgrades. If your squad does well, you'll be awarded with a field upgrade. This allows you to unlock the next bit of kit for just that session.

As for vehicles, the hover tank and the normal tank both do the most damage. Walkers can do equivilent damage if all the walkers rockets hit the target. The APC doesn't boast that much fire power, but the EMP launcher is quite handy. As for stationary vehicles, the turrets will give damage to any vehicle, but the AA turret wont damage anything except small cars and aircraft.

You get extra points for being top squad leader, or a member in the top squad i think.
 
ok smoove im a bf2 veteran and an ace bf2142 player. it took me a while to get used to the change from bf2. BF2142 is more of a squad based game but you dont always have to go that way. be a lone wolf as they say.

as for vehicles nothing beats a battlewalker. pressing the right mouse key fires these little projectile which do a lot of damage to tanks, apc's etc but u wont be able to hit walking people with the projectiles use the gun. as for tanks the nekometer is very good hard to manouver but you'll get used to how it moves took me a while but i masterd it now lol.

the aim of the game in the titan mode is to destroy the enemy titan once inside the titan destroy the consoles. im going give u a little tip now from my personal knowledge. when defending your titan go to corridor 1 playing as support as u say you do put down ammo crate and sit near the console im hoping you have granades or this wont work . if you do then put down your ammo crate lie next to it and keep throwing granades down the corridor towards the door and any enemy thats comes in the corridor gets blow up. and believe me this works doing this ive got over 200 points on a 42 player server as a lot of people attack it at one time.

If you want easy points, get the APM upgrade in recon and plant mines in conquest where enemy are sure to go. If you die while placing the mine, your mine will still be there, but you can only ever have two mines out at any one time so if you place new ones your old ones will be destroyed. Only a handful of people actually watch where they're going so the vast majority of people will happily step onto your mine giving you some points :)

Another great way of getting points is to get the defribulator (shock paddies) and use them to revive your teammates, this is particuarly rewarding in Titan defense as team members drop like flies in the generator room.

Finally, don't be afraid to use vehicles, they are a clear advantage in combat and will often give you the upper hand over enemy unless someone with a PILUM is lurking about.

Oh and getting the grenade unlock is something which should be done ASAP if you haven't already done it, grenades are quite possibly one of the best ways to accumilate score in areas where the enemy are confined.
 
I'm pretty good at 2142, my record so far on foot without armour is 22 kills before death on 50k :D



Be discrete, try and cap the flags quickly

Constantly help your teammates i.e. give ammo and repair and revive....

Work with the best players and their quality should rub off
 
couple of things

As you play in a squad you get field upgrades, these can only be used during that game, once you disconnect and join another server, you no longer have them.

To gain permanent upgrades, you need points. And once you get points you get promoted in rank. Every time you gain a rank, you gain a permanent unlock too.

As for the easiest way to get points. make sure you stay inside the squad leaders order zone. You get double points for all kills/ support points inside the order zone. So if the squad leader says "defend this position" make sure you defend it within the actual zone to get the benefits :)

also, remember you get points for taking outposts. So if your with a squad, make sure you stand near the outpost to get a share of the points for neutralizing and capturing it.

If your playing as support, i find it best to use the LMG crouched. Going prone takes too long for the crosshair to close, crouching is the best compromise between accuracy and speed. never use it standing up or running. And remember, you can fire and move whilst crouching, and still keep excellent accuracy.

my other top tips is to learn the maps, Learn where the chokepoints are. You will find people tend to accumulate in certain places, so dont rush head on into them. Instead sneak up to them, and then wait for people to filter through to pick up easy kills. Get them to come to you, not the other way round.
 
As basspunk says, be discrete as possible. I generally work in a Squad with mates and one of us goes in first for example then then one of us is Assault to can revive etc.

Always drop the the floor when you are being shot as it makes the enemy harder to get an accurate shot on your straight away.

Assault / Support is probably the easiest classes to get points on. I soon got up the ranks just by throwing Ammo packs over every Silo I captured.

easy way of getting points are repairing heals revives and support actions also if u get kills when your fallowing an order from ** squad leader, and also killing people. as for the support guns once they zero there deadly
