If anyone's looking for a great side scrolling beat em up that they haven't played before, have a butchers at 'Vendetta' on MAME.
It's a fairly obscure title so not many people know about it, but it's a great fun classic side scroller :)

One thing I will say, please don't ask any mame questions or post any links in this thread, it'll only get closed and that's not cool on the OP.

It could be done, and it could be done well. If they'd make the equivalent changes that occurred between street fighter and street fighter 4.

A side scrolling 3Dish lightly cellshaded Streets of rage would be quite awesome

Streets of Rage... the music was pure awesome.

Yuzo Koshiro was the guy behind the music, he later went on to create his own studio where he released Story of Thor on the Mega Drive.

I got the 3 streets of rage cd soundtracks (called Bare Knuckle as it was a Jap release).

Your nearest modern equivalent to SOR and GA for single player would be a game like Ninja Gaiden imo (I can only vouch for the original as I have not played part 2), or the next game due for release by the Ninja Gaiden creator (who has left the studio responsible for the franchise).

I know it might not seem so at first but Ninja Gaiden imo is the perfection of the beat-em-up genre that SOR is also a part of, and combines the same elements (graphics, sound, fight engine) to make a spectacular experience.

If you are looking for a remake of the original SOR, check this: http://www.bombergames.net/sorr_project/ - its quite a swish update and retains the 2D feel.

Was really let down by Part 3. Check out the remake I posted above - its quite the thing :)

Wicked, thanks for the link.

the teenage mutant ninja turtles game on PSN is a 3d version of the original TMNT game on the megadrive which was a direct rip off of streets of rage. I checked it out and didn't mind it, but not my cup of tea though
