DELETED_5350

Might be worth asking in the sound city forum :p

I liked 5.1 for the brief time I had it with headphones and dolby headphone was pretty cool :)

When I'm at uni I have a full 5.1 speaker set up, and that's awesome as well :)

Hearing footsteps behind you really does make a difference!

Used to game with 7.1. On css it felt almost overpowered as I became a lot more in tune with the games sounds. However, I would take a decent 2.1 any day because I value music more than I do game sound now.

to spend £350 on anything but 2.1 or separates is nuts. 5.1 and 7.1 don't have great quality in comparison so no point spending a fortune. Think my 7.1 was like £200. I spent that same on a 2.1 and it blew them away.

I've just got some basic Logitech x540. Love the positional sound.

Was playing Alien Swarm with my brother and kept complaining that he never shot the guys coming from behind. He said he could hear them coming, but didn't know where from. That's when I was like... oh yeah.. you don't have 5.1 :p

Definitely worth trying

How close to true surround sound is a good stereo headset with CMSS 3D?

The way they work is closer to how your ears expect to hear directional sound. They take a 5.1/7.1input and convert it so that the left and right ear are out of phase and have the expected volume correct. It's obviously only as good as the input can allow it to be though.

These gimmick gaming 5.1 headsets that just cram an extra four speakers and hook them up as if it were a normal surround sound system are a terrible way of doing it. You just hear sound a bit forward/backward per ear.

I use Dolby Headphone rather than CMSS 3D, so I can't comment from first hand experience on it. It's supposed to be pretty good. DH is superb though.
