Just make sure the IGP is enabled in BIOS and you can use the onboard HDMI without Virtu. You will also need to make sure you have the IGP drivers installed. You can then set it to clone or extended mode for your HDTV.

IGP = Integrated Graphics Processor.

Nope, you can use both at the same time. To swap to the other monitor (assuming you're using Win 7), just right click anywhere on the desktop, click screen resolution, pick the HDTV and tick "Make this my main display". After hitting OK/Apply this will then switch to the HDTV.

Are you using the motherboard's onboard audio?

I would think that's the only way to get sound through the HDMI.

As I said I would think that to get sound through the HDMI connector on the motherboard you would have to set the default audio device to the motherboard's onboard audio.

If you go into the Sound section in the Control Panel you may have a selection of audio outputs to choose from depending on what you have installed.

Like this:

You need to set the default device (use right click) to the option which will use the onboard audio over HDMI.

Would it not have been easier to have connected the Motherboards SPDIF header to the GTX260 and use the nvidia DVI-HDMI converter?

Ive had no issues playing sound using dvi to hdmi adapter. although I think I read somewhere that not all graphics cards can? It been awhile since I used one as my new graphics card has hdmi anyho.

On some cards the DVI ports do indeed also transfer sound audio when a DVI to HDMI adapter is connected, but it also depends on the adapter you're using. Usually best to use the one that came with your card, unless it didn't come with one

from my experience you cannot use an Nvidia DVi/HDMI (GTX260) adaptor to run sound on an ATI card (HD3650 and HD4670) but it works fine on the GTX260.

An ATI adaptor on an ATI card does allow sound to be passed over, but the I am of the understanding, from what I have read, that HD2xxx uses a different adaptor to newer cards.

The same adaptor I have works on both my HD3xxx and HD4xxx cards, but I don't know if it works on HD5xxx or newer cards.
