For transferring DV (as DV), you would need a FireWire connection on your pc. The cable above will fit in the camera but won’t work as the other end is usb. (The reviews say as much) You would need an ieee 1394 cable at both ends. I have an old Sony HVR-Z1 and had to install a FireWire pci-e card to get it to work. Off the top of my head, I think my card is IEEE 1394B which is the funky looking square shaped connector for FireWire 800. It’ll work on 4 pin or 6 pin cards too.

To use an external video capture device, you would have to use the av cable like you posted. The quality won’t be as good as straight DV but it should work.
