I'm not so sure, CPUs do get faults yes, but is very rare. Remove the CPU from the motherboard, check the underside of the CPU for damage or dirt/thermal paste and then check the motherboard for bent pins.
Could be possible it has suffered some static damage?
To the OP, what were you wearing when you built it? What surface was it built on? Did you take any anti-static precautions?
Temps hovered around the 60°C mark when running prime95.
Relax the timing on the RAM or up the ram voltage slightly, maybe a notch or two. Passing memtest is all fine but may not show up a random error or one where the RAM is voltage starved under heavy loading.
So I've been running Prime95 blend test for just over 14hours at the exact same settings as when I got the fatal errors. Everything is still at stock. Has anyone got any suggestions as to what the fatal errors the first time could have been?
your RAM and your CPU are both Fine but is just the combination of this two that is the Problem
try to double check your Ram voltage(cause this cpu does not like high voltage RAM like over 1.6v )and make sure that u didn't set the timing of your Ram to auto on your Board (i Google your RAM and im pretty sure that they aren't well compatible with the new Intel sandy bridge)
Worst case try you setup with a recommended RAM for Sandy B
