When I make smoothies I just use frozen berries/fruit and stick them straight from freezer to blender with a bit of natural yogurt and splash of milk. I dont add any sugar at all, the fruit have enough for me.

I made one this morning...

Handful of frozen mixed berries
Natural yoghurt 2 spoonfuls
100ml Soya milk
1 banana
10g acacia honey

Blitzed up and poured, made 2 normal tumbler sized glasses worth.

I made mine with:

Baby spinach
Pineapple (frozen)
Papaya (frozen)
Plain Greek yogurt
Some almonds
Water

Spinach is so good for me. I'm doing this because I can't eat much of them. Drinking with other fruits would be much more tasty.

vary selection of frozen fruits: blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, pineapple, cherries, mango, papya, etc. Add a bannana and a glass of orange juice. I also sometimes add the juice Of fresh lemon or lime to reduce the sweetness of the fruit.

Blend and enjoy.in the evening add a couple of shots of rum!

Protein is harder to add successfully IMO. Yogurt works ok, as does milk instead if orange juice.
I really don't like the thought of adding protein powders, and I'm not a fan of adding flax/chia/quinoa seeds, hemp, almonds, peanut butter or other nonsense.

To add protein nothing similar than frying an egg alongside (with bacon as an option). Also good is the banana and egg pancakes (no other ingredient).

Do you freeze the fruit yourself or do you buy it frozen?

Normally frozen, if I see reduced priced stuff, then freeze it myself, couple if zips lock bags and you can portion it out before freezing.

Fresh is really only for the looks and textures, the flus our and nutrition are the same if not better in frozen fruits (they get picked when ripe not slightly under like most fresh stuff is).

Fresh is rarely worth the price premium for smoothies. Obviously things like apples, melons. And bannana work well fresh.

Cheers, I only asked because you mentioned fruits like pineapple and mango but I haven't noticed them frozen in ASDA. I may have to try the other supermarkets as I loved the mango and pineapple smoothie McDonalds did in the summer. I'll try to recreate it :D

In the US at least you get bags of pre-mixed from fruit specially for smoothies, things like banana and strawberry, or mango + pineapple + strawberry.

If you can't find them frozen you can of course use fresh but frozen is usually cheaper and more convenient. Especially as I don't recommend to have too many smoothies in a week - they are not that healthy for you being loaded with natural sugars.

I tend to have porridge 4-5 days a week, one smoothy a week and then banana pancakes or full cooked on sundays. With fresh fruit you would have to have several smoothies in a row

I go the gym before work when I get up and due to a busy schedule (and the fact I work away from home) don't usually have time to make breakfast afterwards. Therefore I've been thinking recently that a quickly made fruit smoothie, or something of this nature, would be a good idea.

I'm in a similar situation and regularly drink milkshakes to get an extra boost. Mine generally consist of:

2 whole bananas
400ml milk (however much you want really, 400ml is just as much as my cup can hold)
a handful of oats
a teaspoon of peanut butter
a drop of vanilla flavouring

Blend for a couple of minutes until smooth (You'll never completely eliminate all the bits)

Gives you plenty of calories to give you that kick when you need it, whether you're at work at 7.30am hungry, or just need that boost pre-gym. Hope this has given you an extra option, OP :)
