hey all

i have this video file on my computer that wont delete
i downloaded it off some p2p software so its hardly suprising lol.
anyway, im pretty sure its 'dodgey' as whenever i click on it my computer suddenly goes very slow, so i just do a restore.
so what software is there to try get this thing off my computer?
btw, i cant get rid of it via restore because it is on my 2nd hard-drive :( so nothing gets taken off there.
btw, this software needs to be free ;)

many thanks,

Chris

Just start your PC in safe mode and then delete the file :)

Although it does sound like you may already be infected, have a look in Task Manager and see if there are any strange new programs running.

Delete it, and do a virus scan, then check all the usual locations.
Remember to clear out all your Browser caches and remove any Active X components etc.

download a program called "move on boot" very good. you just right click on the file, select delete on boot from properties, and when you reboot it is gone :D

so, choose delete, and kill process, or unlock process!

Delete the file from DOS (command prompt) what is happening is that when you click the file, windows explorer is trying to make up a thumbnail (and also trying to pull media information such as resolution etc), if the file is damaged or corrupted, then this will sometimes hang the thumbnail/information check. As the file is still opened by this process you can not delete it.

If you open a dos window, and manually move to the directory the file is in, using the CD command, and then type del nameoffile.ext (whatever you file name is), then this will delete it.
