deleting folders that are in use

hi all. im wanting to delete some files in one of my partitions but windows isnt allowing me to.
sometimes, with some files it states 'cannot read from source file' or sometimes i get 'cannot delete this file, it may be in use'

the file is empty and definately not in use.

a reboot still doesnt allow me to delete it and i dont want to format the partition as some stuff i still need

any ideas

If your desperate you could boot in safe mode and delete.

If that still doesn't work, boot in safe mode then open command box. Sometimes you can't delete >715MB AVI files.
