Deleting old direct debits

I have a few old settled direct debits where they aren't being used (i.e. the last payment was 4 months ago and I don't expect more to come out since I no longer hold an account with the company).

Is it OK to delete old unused direct debits?

I tend to cancel DD's via online banking before even contacting the company. Then when they try to get me to stay 'I've already cancelled it - I'm just letting you know, bye'

Seems to make things easier. They don't try to keep me on when I've already cancelled the DD

Always best to check regularly and just clear them up as mentioned. You never want to be in a situation where a company owes you money as it can be annoying to get back.

Yep, just delete them via online banking. It's a safe way to do it as some companies tend to 'forget' to stop charging.

Always do it, Barclaycard tried to take payment of an old direct debit, i was to smart for those crooks to do so
