Ok, very soon im gonna delid my 3570k,seen some vids on you tube and its well within my capabilitys
so my cpu needs more volts but runs cool at the moment,(currently running 4.3ghz @1.3v with a hyper 212+ and hits about 71*c max with prime 95 running for an hour)so I have the headroom!!
But if I oc to 4.5ghz+ things start getting warmish,(up to high 80s and above)
I want to oc as high as poss,so a delid would hopefully keep my temps down.
Is it ok to run vcore at 1.5v+ (for benching) im a bit worried about using that much voltage.
PS cant afford better cooling at present.

I wouldnt push the voltage up at all unless it is necessary tbh, you run the serious risk of frying it like a sausage over a tube track (Very very zappy).

*Edit, as above 1.5 is a bit daft to do)

To run 4.3ghz on a fixed voltage setting is 1.26v,we haven't all got super low voltage chips,as I said mine runs cool,i thought heat was what it was all about

If cant afford better cooling can you afford to replace the chip if it dies? I've not looked into delidding Ivy cpu's but are you really going to gain that much by doing it?

Yes, when pushing higher voltages people have reported a 5-10C drop in temp by delidding

for reasons known only to intel, they used TIM on the heatspreader of the Ivy instead of solder like they do in every other chip, cheap TIM at that

you reach a point on the standard chip where the TIM can't cope and the heat shoots up when it otherwise wouldn't with a better interface

im planning on deliding mine soon, it doesnt seem hard from what ive read... which is a lot,

if your doing it to add longevity to your chip and oc by cooling it then good, or if you just want to do it for the hell of it

but i dont think you will get much more of a clock out of it. 4.3 at 1.3 is high

I saw a 20c drop on mine with using coollaboratory liquid pro between the die and heatsink

if anything its high voltages that's gonna hold you back,i personally wouldn't like to go above 1.4v for 24/7 use

you might be better off selling that chip and buying another, maybe a 3770k as they tend to use much less voltage compared to the 3570's ive seen

I have a 3770k that I was toying with delidding.
As it turns out its not a great a overclocker, I need 1.32v for 4.5Ghz and 1.4v is not enought for a stable 4.7Ghz

For me the risk of delidding is not worth the extra 100hz (~2% increase) sounds as though you are in a simular situation.

Maybe worth selling and having another go on the silicon lottery.....

Traditionally it meant removing it, but with IB it's been common to mean also replacing the paste under the IHS and then re-attaching it.

Cool, get some liquid pro under there. Search on the forums for delidding and youll see some people made logs when they did it, might be handy for some tips.
