So following on from my earlier thread, got the chip on the table ready to go,
I just couldn't seem to start the corner off,and after trying for about 30mins I started to scuff the pcb, although I didn't nick it I decided it wasn't worth it and thought I d warn others who may have thoughts on this subject , the chip is back in and working just fine! narrow escape for me I think!
As others have said im gonna save up and get a 50 quid cooler and probably shave 10*c off that way.

To be honest I got my 3770k yesterday, and looking at the gap (or lack of) between the PCB and the IHS, I'm amazed you can even get a razorblade in there.

Maybe the hammer/vice method is better?

Respect for all you crazy gits who delid or even try, wouldnt even dream of trying this - I know it's because all I'd end up with would be some impressive fails images for here :D lol

you have to watch the cpu pcb physically bend as you cut through, scary stuff but nice results if/when you pull it off

What knife ya using? I went to my local DIY store and bought the cheapest knife I could find with a breakable blade, them knifes with the breakable blade are v thin and use the middle of the blade so it's going Right across the pcb then it can't scuff it, gotta admit I was surprised how much pressure it takes to get the knife in, I was worried I would snap the blade.

I used a Stanley knife blade both times I've de-lidded. The second chip took a lot more brute force to get the first corner started than the first (which would probably have put me off it was my first attempt).

Just take your time and be careful.
