10920X after Xmas or delid 7800X and wait till the summer, or perhaps even until PS5 drops. Likely when you will need an eight core processor at the very least.

The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.
The latter, I'm kinda impulsive. Are you having performance issues just now or are you just eager to tinker?

Was in a similar position, delid an 8700K or upgrade to 9900K. I ended up delidding and then 3 weeks later upgrading anyway as it didn't scratch the itch.
Buy a whole new platform? No thanks.
I guess I'll wait until the new ones release.
Also intrigued, says up to 20c drop. Only one MATX AM4 board, that is a problem.Did you see much gains from Delidding your CPU? I've always been curious about this type of stuff

I don't have any screenshots but saved about 15 degrees at gaming temps. Idle temps were down a bit as well. Never pushed it past 4.8 as undecided to go i9. Haven't talked myself into delidding the i9 yet.
bet the i9 will benefit well from a delidThat's crazy I knew it helps with temps but didn't realise it was that muchbet the i9 will benefit well from a delid
Might wait till the summer to upgrade then, not like I need to anyway as of yet.The i9 is soldered so the reductions aren't quite as good but it's a really solid tweak you can do on anything ivy bridge to coffee lake.
I talked the benefits of a quiet system running cooler but it gives headroom for more vcore for higher clocks.

Intel must be damm pleased that at least someone is interested in there processors next year![]()
The has been such noise about AMD keeping the same socket that it rarely is said that Intel isn't always a new socket. Granted it's rarely and only 1 gen but there are some people who it applies to and they are the people who don't want to swap their whole platform out.
Take the 9900K vs the 3900X. Previous Intel users had to buy a new motherboard for the 9900K, the 9900K itself and a cooler for it (if not reusing their current one/it doesn't fit). A previous generation Zen user just updates their BIOS and slots in a 3900X without the cost of a board and possibly a new cooler as well.
I am not really sure why anyone would be totally ok with spending £200 on a board last gen, another £200 this gen then £200 next gen if they want to keep upgrading.
