So I was just in the shower, after returning home from the gym. I hear the doorbell go, but choose to ignore as I am literally drying off.

Next thing I know, I hear the door open downstairs and someone walking into the house. The dog at this point is going nuts.

I quickly rush downstairs to find the delivery driver (a parcel for my wife) has been left on the hallway floor. As I rush outside, the driver is in his van down the road.

The driver could not get an answer so has opened my door and walked into my house.

The delivery are Hermes, I am really annoyed that 1. He has tried to see if my door is open, 2. enterered my house , surely this is trespassing?

But you got your parcel.

I'd be annoyed too. Why do you leave your doors unlocked?

Lock your doors. This wouldn't bother me at all in all honesty and I would be glad I got the parcel.

if you don't lock your doors, when you are in the shower, how do you know that half your street didn't come in whilst you were having a wash?

It is illegal surely. I'd contact the police

Yes, i should have locked the door. :( But still they should not be trespassing to deliver a parcel.

You left the door unlocked. He tried to door just to see if he could delivery it. He doesn't seem to have taken anything so appears to have simply tried to do his job. Should have locked your door.

I would have been like wtf mayte... but I woudln't say kick off about it.

But I always keep my doors locked. I mean did he actually walk inside your house or just literally lean in door and put your parcel in.

Either way he shouldn't be doing that per say but there isn't really any harm done.

A stupid reaction.

OP should be mad at who left the door open, not the delivery man. In fact, you should be grateful he put the parcel in a safest place and left promptly when he could have easily done something malicious or dishonest.

The delivery drivers intentions were clearly good and aimed at delivering the best service he can. You would have to have zero common sense if you think calling the police and threatening his lively hood is an appropriate reaction

Take this as a lesson to lock your doors and be nice to your delivery drivers.

If you do not lock your door, what is the difference between your garden gate and your front door. You give licence for deliveries past your front gate and the justification for passing through the unlocked door was undoubtedly in your favour for security of your delivery and did not IMO cause harm to you or your property.

Just learn the lesson and lock it in future. There is no justification to escalate IMO.

not locking your doors was the first mistake.

i'd contact hermes and ask them to explain fast. regardless of intention he shouldn't even be trying the door in the first place.
Unless the guy did anything wrong such as look around or take anything then this could get him in trouble simply for trying to do his job. I appreciate walking in the house isn't exactly his job but if he's just trying to deliver the package then this could get him in trouble for trying to give good service. I'd have probably had a word with the guy and just pointed out that it's not the best idea in future to walk into someone's house and left it at that.
