Delivery Driver trying the front door

So I just got a text from my partner telling me she's really freaked out.

Basically she went to the toilet and in this time the delivery man with my Amazon parcel knocked on the door. She didn't hear the knock and went into the kitchen at which time the delivery driver tried the door!? (It was unlocked as she had not long put the bins out and forgot to lock it) He then shut the door and knocked again.
What delivery driver tries the door?!?
Is it right? I mean I suppose I'd prefer this than missing the delivery but it's really weird.
I mean it's not even like I have a porch and it definitely could not be mistaken for a porch.
Should I do anything about it??
Anyone else had this happen to them?

I would take this as a lesson learned to lock your front door in the future!

Just imagine if it was someone who wanted to break in, they could have stolen lots of valuables and/or attacked your partner.

As they are paid per delivery some drivers now try the front door to see if its open and put your parcel inside.

They've done it at my house a few times but then again I do have a front porch!

He was either
a) trying it to see if it was worth waiting for longer - locked means no one home
b) about to put the package inside the door when he noticed your gf

But I prefer
c) he's been scouting your place for weeks and didnt realise your gf was home. He'll try again tomorrow.

Sounds like the driver heard your missus flush, tried the door to see if anyone was in, then knocked after confirming someone must be in because its unlocked.

Your reaction is a bit much, i find his actions completely reasonable.

Also, you should probably get a front door lock that cant be opened from the outside without a key.

I wish our Postman and Delivery drivers would open our front door and drop the package inside.

My wife once left the front door ajar all day and, when I returned home from work that evening, a parcel had been place just inside the door. Door was still open.

Good idea with the lock that wont open from the outside without a key

Don't think I've over reacted. I mean I doubt he head the flush as the loo is at the back of the house. Just found it weird as never known this to happen before, could have seen an opportunity.

Normally the door is locked it was only that she forgot to lock it after briefly going outside. Bet she won't make that mistake again at least for a while.

The door was open.. I'd probably do the same apart from leaving it open. Probably would have closed the door.

TBH i always thought those locks were a requirement from most house insurers and were standard in all front doors.

I dont think the driver was an opportunist thief or he would have taken something. If he was just having a gander to scope it out, there are for more discrete and effective ways of doing it such as a peak through the window.

I probably wouldn't, as i know people who just nip next door for 2 mins and leave the door ajar. Wouldn't want to risk locking an elderly lady out.

Some people have 2 doors at the front (not necessarily a porch) and only lock the inside one during day time - so I'm guessing he tried that to see if he could leave it in an interstitial space.

Don't understand people who don't lock their doors when not using them myself - even on the edge of a quiet sleepy town with relatively low crime as I do it is just asking for trouble.

had the same thing a couple of months ago, my front door was locked so he walked away.. it wasnt even for our house it was a delivery for a house 3 doors away!

I wouldn't expect any delivery person to open the door. Opens up a huge can of worms that companies don't need the hassle of dealing with. I would get sacked pretty quick from the company I work for if I went around doing that.

Am I weird to be reading people saying 'I wish all delivery people would do that' are mental?:(
