I'm waiting until October 1st to order my MB... Just wondering if the delivery time will increase due to the new OS being there, seeing as its not a hardware change?

Back to uni on the 8th, hoping for it by then.

Well, another thing, am I right in thinking that you don't get the same level of warranty if you go and order with the HE discount from the shop?

You'd get the same 1 year warranty (assuming no Applecare) regardless.

I don't think your order would be delayed if you ordered on Oct 1st, you'd probably end up with Tiger. Apple don't exactly have a stellar track record of holding off from charging people for kit that's just about to be obsoleted (but then I guess its the consumers responsibility to check).

Surely they couldn't make a big thing about Leopard on their site and then sell them with Tiger on?

And I'm expecting a 3 year warranty with my HE discount :)

So I could buy it in late September? I want to wait around to see if there's going to be a free iPod promotion too though I suppose :)

The free iPod thing won't happen afaik (still going to stay a US-only thing)

Oh, and Apple stores don't get told about products until Apple release them, so if you bought a MB with Tiger they wouldn't warn you if Leopard was coming out the next day, but they'd probably upgrade it for you when you ring up.

I bought an new iMac G5 2 years ago when they got newly released (for christmas) and they literally released a new model in January and wouldn't budge when I complained that the new computer I'd bought was out of date.. I complained they should have warned me but they didn't wanna know.

If you order it on the day its announced your apple computer will get a drop in upgrade if it doesn't have it installed already.

If you've ordered a computer upto 14 days before you get an upgrade voucher which you can use to get a copy for a small fee.

Apple will nearly always sort you out if you buy something that is just before a big upgrade unlike any other company. Often tho they just stick a delay on anything thats about to be upgraded till the upgrade is announced and everyone gets the new version.

I'd rather not pay anything and just wait until October 1st (has that not been confirmed yet?) as I don't need it before uni...

I would hate to be stung by a new product release, but at the end of the day some one has to be the last person to buy it otherwise you might as well have a policy which says all products will be upgraded free to the newest version and companies would go right out of business. Apple cannot tell you a new product is coming out because if they did no one would buy any thing from them until it did. You buy some thing accepting that your happy with that product, if its replaced then thats just the natural thing, if you were not happy with what you bought then you shouldn't have bought it.

I'll just wait for Leopard, that's the thing I'd be disappointed not to get. I'm not expecting another MB upgrade, and won't be that disappointed if they do slightly after I get one, as long as I've got the new OS which they've already announced.

But that's exactly what they have done, They've said leopard will be launched in october :)

It will be the last Friday of the month (26th October) if you go by other Apple trends.

Buy now and just upgrade, or hold back if you can :)

As I say, I'm in no rush, I have no explicit need for it before I start uni. Only to say I've got one :p
