Hi Guys,
I recently fixed up (new hard drive) a Dell 1150 and installed Windows XP SP2 on it and everything worked perfectly fine. However now the USB and Audio doesn't work. From what my sister told me, she plugged in her Ipod shuffle dock with the shuffle on it to charge, when she came to remove it and after she did the laptop shut its self down. Once it rebooted both sound and both USB ports stopped working.
Windows no longer detects the sound card, although it shows up in the BIOS. The USB ports are detected fine but nothing connected to them works (USB Mouse, flash drives etc). I've removed all the USB related listings from the device manager and rebooted, which didn't fix anything. When I plug in a flash drive the drives light comes on for a second, but instead of it flashing and windows detecting it, nothing happens.
I've also ran a Dell diagnostic test CD, all the USB tests went fine, but there was no sound test. I can't recall if there were before, but no sound tests were listed this time around.
I've tried searching around on google for a solution, but I'm thinking that both the USB ports and the sound card are dead. Anyone had a similar experience? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark
