The face recognition software Dell offer is an extra cost option on some systems, so I doubt if it will be available for a free download.

Are you trying to re-install a copy under Win7 that you already had installed in Vista before you upgraded? If so, I believe that you need to run the 2nd DVD provided by Dell (the "Dell Upgrade Assistant") both before and after the upgrade to Win7. If this doesn't or did not work, then your next best bet is to re-install it from the original backup CD that came with your laptop. If you didn't receive one, then call Dell tech support and they can mail one to you upon request. Even if it's out of date (i.e. earlier than version 2.4.7 which is required for Win7 compatibility), you may still upgrade it by going to the Windows menu > All Programs > FastAccess facial recognition> "Check for updates".

If you're looking to install a copy on a Win7 machine that didn't include a copy originally then the previous poster is correct - Dell has chosen not to make "after market" versions available at this time.

and its not great either. Had it with my sxps, if I can find it you can have mine

If I may, what specifically did you find problematic with FastAccess? If you could provide some details as to what you are seeing or expecting then perhaps I can help.

There is also a very comprehensive FAQ about the software available here which may be a good resource for you as well.

I found it quite slow to recognise me, sometimes it would hang and not work at all when resuming from sleep.
In all cases it was just quicker to type a password and have less bloat on my system.
I am sure some people will love it but to me it is just a gimmick.

Thanks very much for your reply. I appreciate your candor.

What I might consider if you're a very fast typist and don't get as much value out of the initial login recognition would be the following two features:

1. Web logins. Automatically enter stored credentials for websites in IE, but only when your face is visible. Of course other programs provide similar functionality, but not with anywhere close to this level of security.

2. Continuous Security: When this technology is used in it's Enterprise form in banks and hospitals, the absolutely crucial feature is actually not the ability to recognize someone to log them in, but the ability to recognize when they LEAVE the computer so FastAccess can automatically lock the desktop behind them. This is an incredibly strong security feature (if you need that security) and can be turned on by moving the Security Mode slider from the default "Face Login" all the way to the right...to "Continuous Security".

Just some ideas. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.
