Right now I'd be avoiding both of them, the 9800's will be coming into play soon and I imagine laptops using them will be the same price as 8800 options.
I've used both of them. Both can be configured with SSD's, but the Dell seems slightly sturdier. The Alienware seemed flimsy especially around the all important hinge area. Also, the Alienware can't drive an external 30" monitor at native resolution (2560 x 1600) as it does not have a dual link DVI-D port - the Dell can.
Nvidia 9800m GT and GTX should be available in September, but neither manufacturer has confirmed they will be using the new chips yet. A single 9800m GT should offer the same performance as a current 8800m GTX. The 9800m GTX will be a few percent faster than 8800m gtx as it has more shaders (112 vs 96).
