Hi. I've got a dell 2005FPW 20" widescreen monitor and i love it. I've been using it at uni (this is the third year now), and was using it all day today. then when i came back to it there was no power.

I've searched everywhere and haven't found anyone with the same problem. It just won't turn on. no lights on the buttons or the backlight. Main's fuse is fine, the one in the plug is fine, i just think it broke.

Problem is, when i go to dell's support site for warranty information, it asks for a service tag on the back of the monitor. Mine says REVA01, and otheres on the internet say the same thing, but dell's website thinks it's invalid.

does anyone know what the warranty is on these monitors?

it should have 3 years warranty, If it does not have a service tag you need to call them up 0870 908 0800. do you have a serial number on the LCD as they will ask for that.

K I spoke to dell this morning. Apparently monitor serial numbers don't work on their system and they need an order number (but this was three years ago and I don't have that information). The service tag on the monitor apparently is meant to be 5 or 7 characters, mine is 6.

don't really know what to do.

EDIT: was just told my monitor was bought in Mexico (serial starts with MX), and so UK dell can't do anything without the order number, looks like I'm buying a new monitor!

according to the OCUK website on Dell monitors it says that the original works order number is on the box that it was packed in when you bought it, do you still have the box?

Did you purchase your monitor from Mexico by any chance or via a retail outlet in this Country, UK? If bought from OcUK you may have a 4 year warranty as that it what they supply dell monitors with. If bought from another outlet then contact them as they may be able to help regarding a sales record if you approach them nicely. :)

I bought the monitor from a certain auction site but it wasn't second hand it was brand new and the guy was one of those power sellers and said warranty is included.

I've had a look on the box but i'm not sure what to look for. the dell guy said it says something like consigment number or order number, and it should be 7 or 8 digits only. Closest i've found is a HAWB number but that's 9 digits.

I do have the name it was sent to though (i.e. the guy I bought it off) and the date so i'm going to try dell to tell them to get the order number from that.

!!! all sorted. called dell up and gave just the name and post code and date that was written on the box, and he found the order from there. They're coming round on wednesday to pick it up and give me another. Love this monitor and so glad that i can still have one. hopefully this time it will be revision 2!

Got a disappointing call today, said that the warranty ran out in december, so the guy I bought it off took a month or two to sell it to me and so it's not replaceable!

Went and bought an HP w2207h this morning - excellent monitor for the money but all i can think of is how i've downgraded from IPS to TN (although to be honest, i can't tel the different, glossy looks a lot brighter anyway).

ok Ive opened up this dell monitor to fix it. turns out a power transistor had blown, so i replace it with a similar one.

question is, how long should i leave the monitor on for to test it? it's been on now for about two hours (just showing vista's colourful screensave) and it's not particularly warm at the back.

i'm guessing after two hours it has reached its maximum temperature? I'm gonna use it for a week and if it still works i'm taking my w2207 hp back (the 2005fpw has the really good panel in it and the resolution is the same anyway).
