Hi folks

On the Dell 2007 20" & 20.1" Widescreen models, it has 4 Downstream USB ports & 1 Upstream (I dont know what that means really but im guessing just 4 normal USB ports lol)

Anyway...

Are they powered by the monitor itself? In otherwords, not draining anything from the Motherboards USB connectors?

Thanks in advance,

Sean

just a note, the upstream connection is just used to connect the monitor to a USB port on your PC which then gives it the functionality.

Thanks for the help folks :)

Ah ok, so in otherwords, if your PC has 6 USB ports, it will only have 5 because the Monitor will plug into one of them...

(Even though you'll then get 4 from the Monitor).

So that cable isnt used to draw power from the PC? It's just used to essentially 'tell' it that the monitor also has USB ports...

that's right. You can therefore plug devices which need high power into the monitor (i have my ipod plugged into mine) which is something you can't always do with USB hubs unless they are externally powered as well

Excellent!!!

I just ordered

Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP 20.1" Performance LCD Monitor - Midnight Grey (MO-010-DE)

It's not Widescreen...But I dont want widescreen :D
