Dell 2407WFP "dirty looking screen"

Ive just moved up from a 19 inch CRT to the 2407WFP but the screen looks like it has a kind of haze over it like it needs a good wipe. I don't have much experience with flat screens and wondered if this is normal? Its very noticeable on lighter colours like white.
And the video display from my nebula TV card is pants same with drivx movies and DVD, very blocky. I also have a projector with a seven foot screen on dualview and it looks 100 times better with video.

My video card is a Nvidia 6600GT set at 1920X1200 and using the digital cable that came along with the monitor. Running the latest drivers 91.31_winxp2kmce.

Thanks for any help.
BTW £700 for a monitor and they don't even send a power lead :(

Edit to fix the title

Thanks for the replys and yes its a 2407WFP. I kind of knew that running low resolution video at such a high resolution would look bad just not that bad BTW ive downloaded some HD stuff and it looks as blocky as hell too i guess i need to play around with some settings or maybe my 6600GT and 3ghz P4 is not up to it.

Theres no protective film on the screen :D

Ive calibrated the monitor but the "haze" is still there i guess this is one of the drawbacks of LCD technology and if it is then LCD has a long long long long way to go to catch up with CRT.

"is your 6600 GTs DVI connector dual link or single link?"

I really don't know but ive changed to VGA and the disply is just the same. Maybe its just me but i dont think spending £700 on a monitor that over all looks worse than my 19 inch CRT is not acceptable. I'm not talking about video playback i don't blame that on the monitor.
Its the "haze" that seems to cover the whole screen like there is a protective layer covering it which was meant to be peeled of. Even a friend said the monitor needed a clean but it aint dirt.

I'm sending it back and buying a £2000 HDTV just to plug my standard TV aerial into it so i can whine some more :D But of course you can get HDTV over a normal aerial in the london area. The crystal palace transmitter i think.

Thanks for you help.
