I'm looking for a 20" widescreen monitor, and this one still seems the best of the bunch (aside from the NEC LCD20WGX2 but that's too expensive for me). However Dell have obviously got the new SP2008wfp out now to replace it I imagine, however this is a TN panel, versus the S-IPS/PVA panel of the older 2007wfp. And there's also the E207WFP which looks great value but also a TN panel.

Do you think I'm being too picky about panels, esp at 20"? Going to be using it for a lot of purposes, photo editing, entertainment, work, gaming...

Any advice appreciated!

I bought one not long after it came out and it's brilliant. No dead pixels, no ghosting, no complaints. What with the falling prices of larger monitors I would be inclined to get 24"+ one next time, but if 20" is all you can accommodate space wise you can't really go wrong with it.

I have a 2007WFP and it's excellent for photo usage but I will note 2 flaws which is very minor, more an annoyance really.

The screen has 4 USB ports, 2 on right side and 2 on the back. If you use the right side ports you have to unplug your devices when in portrait mode else the USB plugs get in the way and hit the desk.

The ports on the back fit most USB device but some that have chunky housings like my MSI bluetooth dongle do not fit so I have had to force the USB dongle to go nekkid as shown below :eek::eek:

Only minors of course and the quality of the screen you choose more than makes up for such minors!

Otherwise an extremely nice looking monitor for /everything/

No you're not being picky, the S-IPS panel in the 2007wfp still has just about the best viewing angles money can buy. I still wouldn't want a TN for my main display because of the viewing angles, especially the vertical viewing angles where you get a colour gradient from top to bottom and colour shift as soon as your head moves. 2007wfp is a really nice gaming screen too.

When i saw a dell 2007wfp i thought the PQ looked considerably sharper than my dell 2407wfp at the time. Maybe they're a little on the small side these days but if PQ is your thing, and 20" is suitable for what you want to use it for then i can't think of any better alternatives but they do come at a premium still too because of this :)

Great pics btw mrK , bet that camera wasn't cheap!

Well I know most screens of 20"-22" are TN panels, but I am a little put off even just from using my laptop, which from recently reading up on viewing angles in looking for a monitor, I've only just realised that the angles on my lappy are absolutely shocking, and I really don't want the same on a larger scale!
