I'm thinking of buying this monitor but people are telling me it's pretty bad because of the 1680x1050 res. Is this really a problem?

Also, I'm looking at ****** where they sell it for £250. Is there anywhere cheaper?

The 2209WA is a great monitor - it uses an eIPS panel and blows away competing TN panels in terms of image quality. Also, it is rather resonsive and has low input lag - so rather good for gaming. If you want to buy it cheaper than £250, buy it here.

As for the resolution - it is a bit on the small side, but it won't cripple your usage and the total number of pixels is not too much less than a 1920x1080 monitor.

If you are willing to wait - these newer Dell IPS monitors are heading over here soon. The are likely based on the same technology as the 2209WA, but their resolution is higher and the 23in will be slightly bigger (though only 16:9 aspect ratio).

Only problem with the new monitors is that they sport a higher response time than the 2209WA, so they might exhibit a bit more ghosting and distortion with fast moving images and in gaming.

I would have already had a 2209WA if Dell hadn't shoved £50 on the price. Bought a new CPU instead in the end.

still no news on release date of the new dell ips? do you think the 2209WAs will drop in price when the new models are out?

Great monitors, snapped one up when they were £190ish, still reasonable value now though, definitely worth it! Only slight minor point is that its 1680x1050 res but doesn't really bother me.

It's an excellent monitor. It is slightly less responsive for fast-paced games, but this would only be a problem if you're super sensitive about that kind of thing. Elsewhere the image quality is fantastic and it's an absolute steal.

P.S. These forums don't support PM I'm afraid.

well can anyone show me where i can get a 2209wa for 200?

Also, i'm using a monitor with a 5ms response time, would i notice a difference going to 6ms?

Sorry man, we are not allowed to link to OCUK competitors here (due to forum rules) - so you will need to find it yourself. But for what it's worth, £230 isn't bad since OCUK deliver fast and are a trusted shop.

As for 5ms versus 6ms - you won't won't notice any difference.

I have 3 of these they are great and if you are patient you can get them as cheap as 140 for a new one (i managed for one of them)

i dont think they are IPS panels.

It is. All 2209WA monitors use eIPS panels. Unfortunately that one is b-grade - so you won't get full dell warranty. However, it may be worth sending OCUk a webnote to see how much warranty is remaining as it does say:

Warranty: 14 Days (OcUK) + Any additional balance of warranty remaining with the vendor of this product.

Since Dell Ultrasharps come with a 3 year warranty, there may still be years of warranty remaining.

I had a 24" Samsung 24 something something BW I think. Had that, then another one of the same. Both broke, first with a green line down the right hand side, the second - half the screen went multicolours. Think this was just a bad batch that I had got. Maybe the lorry tipped over or something?!

I got my money back and got a 2209WA. Great screen
