I have had a 24" dell 2405 since 2005, bought for £622 on 'this week only' and that was a mega deal at the time, shocking how much cheaper they are these days! I have had no complaint's at all, its a great monitor.

However I now really need to go dual screen, 24" is a good size so not looking to upgrade there, but if I dont get a matching screen it would just annoy me looking at them each day :(

So, do I find a 2nd hand 2405 to pair up with mine, or sell it & buy 2 new screens. It seems there is a reasonable choices of screens at around the £200 mark, I dont want to blow a load of cash. Would a new but much cheaper screen(s) be as good/better than my dell?

Over the past four years the response times, panel qualities, contrast ratios etc will have improved, so I would say you're better off in the long run selling up and getting a couple of newer 24 inchers, especially with the price of them these days.

bear in mind that newer panels such as the Samsung you've linked above are TN panels.

with TN panels, there are visible colour change borders for some images, for example, in Homeworld2. so if you don't mind the colour inaccuracy (believe me, you WILL notice the difference on some images) those TN panels are a steal.

your current Dell 2405 are "24"WS Samsung PVA (LTM240M1-L01)". so although very slow response time of 16ms (12ms G2G), IMHO it's still a very good monitor. have a look at a new Dell Ultrasharp if you want the perfect picture.
