Simple enough which one would be better for a Dell 2405 ATI or Nvidia and we're talking around the 7800 and equivelant in ATI cardage :) oh and it will be used for gaming aswell.

What is your budget here? I'd probably suggest an X1800XT 512mb or X1900XTX depending on your budget as they are about the best value around at the moment so ATI is my primary recommendation but if you have a huge budget then you may want to consider SLi or Crossfire.

woah there! :p

nah like i said were talking around low end 7800 GT range of prices, not even considering SLI or crossfire.

Well then that does firm up my recommendation for the 512mb X1800XT, if you are going to be gaming then I'd say that card is impossible to beat for the money. I think that 512mb Ram will be a big benefit at the sorts of resolutions that your monitor is capable of but if not then you could look to the X1800XT 256mb which is a little more expensive but a lot more capable than the 7800gt :)

hmm looks like i may be going ATI then! thanks semi-pro waster. :)

oooh actually just checked I better put a price down as the ATI's are just a little too expensive I need something for less than £190 that will be good for gaming but will have to run a dell 2405.

why didnt i just put that in the OP

Sadly, "£190", "good for gaming" and "Dell 2405" do not fit well in the same sentence :(

well could someone with some time draw me up a quick list of cards that would do the above just so I know how much ill need. Thanks.

Well, the Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO) can be had this week only for £211.44

That's £21.44+p&p over budget but would be the minimum I would recommend for the 2405.

is that out of all of the Nvidia range and ATI?

It all goes by which games you want play..

For the lastest FPS games you really need something like the x1900xt-x or 7900gtx for single cards.or two 7800gtx,7800gt,7900gt in sli..

Most racing games can get away with lower spec cards.(apart from need for speed.most wanted).

Goes by what settings your hoping to run your games at as well..

doesnt have to be full whack im running a 9200 at home at the moment for gods sake :p anything will be a humongamassive improvement!:D

alright what if i said it has to make the 2405 look good and will have some light gaming and also bear in mind the above....a 9200 people!!!! :p for around £200

Hello mate I would check you have a PCI Express slot first as some lower spec Dells only have PCI. If you've got the correct slot then the XFX 7800GT EXTREME looks very good for £176 as its factory overclocked to 450mhz and they've got a good rep for customer service

Bargain of the century is

£84.95 - HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X800 GTO ICEQII TURBO 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express)

Just unlocked one and it reached 627 on the core. not explored the upper limits of the memory but it ran fine at 600.

I used a X800 540/540 on mine and it ran sweet with all the lastest games.
