The Dell has better connectivity but the Acer seems to have a better contrast and response time.

I want atleast a 24" and it needs to be able to connect to HDTV sources by DVI or HDMI or whatever connection HDTV uses. Both those dont seem to say anything about that though.

Any other better suggestions? Would the difference in response times actually be that noticable anyway?

The Dell has component inputs which are good for HDTV. The only problem with it is that afaik that DVI isn't HDCP enabled.

If you're planning a media centre type thing look at some of the 26" LCD TVs on offer for similar prices. They'll be much more suited for telly watching and because of the lower resolution won't need a stupid system to run all your games on. The only thing you'll lose is desktop real estate when web surfing.

If that Acer is the VGA only one then forget it for HD compatibility. If your after plugging a HD-DVD or SkyHD box in (protected DVI or HDCP/HDMI) then forget the Dell, too. The 2407 (coming soon) will be able to do this so hold out for that one.

The Acer 2416W is using the updated version of the Samsung PVA panel used in the Dell 2405FPW. Neither are HDCP certified though so might be worth waiting for the imminent release of the Dell 2407WFP as suggested. The Acer has only a VGA connection which is a shame, but is well priced at least
