Hi guys

I just got a 2407 today taking advantage of TWO prices and seem to be having an odd problem with it.

When I look at this website I get strange green flickering pixels running in horizontal lines across the photos, it's noticeable on the first one but much more so on the last black and white one.
It's also on the text in the grey box at the bottom.

It's only in the middle fifth of the screen - if I move the page to the left or right of the screen it doesn't appear.

It doesn't appear in any other web page, either on that site or anywhere else I have found and I would have put it down to 'one of those things' but have just noticed it in a one pixel line going across a Nero window....

Does that particular page display properly for everyone else?

Cheers

I had a very similar fault on a Digimate TFT last year and had to return it. The shop (not OcUK) couldn't reproduce the problem after brief testing and I had to pay a restocking fee, and I went away thinking the problem might have been my video card, but after using many more TFTs with the same video card (which all worked 100%), it was definitely a fault with the monitors electronics.

That page looks normal here btw.

i get a horrible contrast thing when im watching tv (composite) on screens with a white background it drowns the pic out with a really high contrast and looks horrible..

Guys, he's clearly not talking about flickering while scrolling, take a look at the photos. Definitely looks like a fault to me. I know it's a real pain, but I think it's time for an RMA, and make sure you get a brand new one not a refurb. Since it's so new you should take it up with the retailer rather than Dell I think.

Just hope OcUK can reproduce the problem when you send it them.

Thanks for the post, I'm thinking it's a fault :(

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do about getting it changed....Dell would swap it out next business day but who's to say it won't be a refurbished...I could send it back to OCUK and get a new one, still well within the seven day distance selling regs...it was only delivered today.

I don't think they would have a problem replicating the problem...I could even send them a DVD with a video showing it if it helped lol (sigh)

If it's faulty you don't need to envoke the DSRs. Under the RMA process the retailer will (or should) cover all costs. Under the DSR process you would pay the return postage.

Trouble with pictures/videos of the problem is that if the retailer fails to reproduce the problem they could blame something else in your system. A video may demonstrate the problem, but they could argue that it's not proof that the monitor caused the problem. You may say that's being paranoid, but retailers are generally pretty reluctant to hand out replacements/refunds in my experience. I've no experience with returning a faulty product to OcUK though I should add. Hopefully they'll get the same issue and it won't be a problem.

Make sure you tell them how to reproduce it. Contact them through the webnote system telling them of the problem and asking how to proceed and see if you're happy with what they suggest.

I had a faulty dell 2007 wfp from ocuk, the day I received it the dvi connection didnt work. I called them up and they told me to sort out with dell and gave me there number. Dell were extremely helpful and the person I spoke to even emailed me personally and told me if I wasnt happy with the replacement to contact him to sort it out.

Sounds promising :) Yeah, thinking about it some more it's probably easier all round to get it done through Dell TBH and that way you avoid having to wait while the retailer checks the screen. Dell should just do a simple swap out. Just insist that they send you a brand new unused screen not a refurb.

It is your choice whether to go through OcUK or Dell though. They can't insist you go through Dell since the contract is with the retailer.

Thanks for all the help guys! :D

I've done some testing, I've swapped the DVI connections around between the CRT and 2407 that are plugged into the same graphics card.

Rebooted and reset it as the primary display...and it doesn't seem to be doing it now - I can even look at the same web page without a problem....very strange!

I think I'll keep an eye on it for the moment and see what happens, by the sound of it I shouldn't have a problem with Dell customer service anyway. All that I didn't want to happen was that I send the brand new screen back and get a refurbished model in it's place.

I'll do some more tests tomorrow if I get a chance...any tests anyone would recommend to see if it causes any more problems?

Thanks again! :)

I've just got a new 2407 to go with my existing 2405 and had a similar problem in the center of the 2407. I tried an Eizo monitor test program downloaded some time ago and one of the moire patterns showed a terrible band of interference down the centre of the screen. However when I swapped the dvi connections at my graphics card the problem shifted to my 2405 so I am presuming a graphics card issue. I also tried the 2407 on analog 1920x1200 and it was fine. As my graphics card is a lowly XFX 6800GT AGP I am wondering if its having a problem driving two 1920x1200 monitors - what card are you using?

I too would hate to swap out an otherwise perfect monitor 'just in case' but at the moment unless the 2407 can affect the graphics card generally I cannot see how it could be at fault.

Possibly the same problem?

About once a fortnight mine starts a random 'fizzing' of green pixels, usually in horizontal lines and most noticeabley in dark areas of the screen. If left over the course of an hour it tends to get progressively worse. Flicking the monitor on and off immediately fixes the problem and it won't recurr for, as I said, at least two weeks or more. It's very strange. So simple to fix that I can't really be bothered to swap it at present. I'm gonna keep my eye on it. I also have issues with the card reader - out of my three different brand SD cards (512mb, 512mb & 1gb) it only reads one of the 512mb ones, the rest never register when inserted. All three work if put into a dedicated card reader that is run through the monitor's USB hub. Any one else have similar issues?

Next time it does it, I'll avi capture it and stick on it Youtube
