First of all I have to say this monitor is HUGE! And totally stunning, the pics don't do it justice (esp once it's lowered into it's stand), it's a bute :D Picture quality is awesome too, the colours are spot on and the text is sharp and crisp. I can read all text as normal even when the screen is pushed right to the back of the desk (something I couldn't do with the sam 226).

So far I think it is perfect for what I need.... except for one thing (which I think is common with this type of panel anyway?),

Basically when you view a website with dark text on a light background, and then use the scroll bar or scroll wheel on the mouse you get a kind of 'ghosting' effect  (also happens if you drag the browser around with the same page open - usually up and down tho).

You don't get it on all sites, just those with dark text on light background, eg these:

On the first website, the ghosting is pinkish, on the second it is greenish :-/

Is there anyway to fix this? Does this happen on your 2407? Should I send it back? I can live with it and I've seen the same thing happen on other LCDs too so guess it's a panel thing.

The other thing I wanted to ask is, how do you know if you have an S-PVA panel or an S-IPS panel? Mine is the HN208L6, which someone in that second link said was a S-IPS panel. It certainly feels like one, there is no darkness at all when looking at the centre spot from an angle.

Overall I am very please with this monitor, I can live with the ghosting so long as it won't effect watching videos, but if it's uncommon or a fault then I should think about getting it replaced perhaps..?

Edit: forgot to add, there were no drivers on the disk, it's using the default generic windows driver (in XP) is this ok? I downloaded the driver for Vista, but there was nothing for XP...

It's already in Desktop mode...

...and I'm already running the latest graphic card drivers.

Manufacture date is May 07, Rev A04.

Do you have S-PVA or S-IPS panels?

You can also find it out by doing this simple test.

1. Use dead pixel buddy or something else to make the screen black (or just change the desktop background black, or use some screensaver that makes the screen black).

2. Look the monitor from angle (something like 150 degrees)

3. If the black a) turns in to purple, you have a S-IPS panel for sure b) tuns in to lighter black, you have a S-PVA panel

This page also tells you how to find what panel you have: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/content/dell_2xx7wfp_2.htm

Looks like it might be my graphics card... I just plugged the Dell into the Laptops VGA, one the first site it does a similar thing, but much less and this time in blue! On the second site it doesn't do anything at all.

Wonder if I can send my graphics card back as it's not that old.

What graphics cards are you guys using?

I took a pic of it, no flash so not great quality - but you can clearly see the pink ghosting:

This was whilst scrolling the page upwards.

I'll try it with a Mac Mini later too..

So you don't get any of that pink 'ghost' effect at all when scrolling the page up and down?

I tried it with a mac mini too, same thing :(

If you guys don't have the problem then I'd better give them a call. Just don't want one that is not as good as this, because apart from the ghosting it seems excellent.

are you scrolling the page up and down?

I just brought the brightness down from 50, to 36. It's now gone a bluey colour, and it doesn't seem as bad.

Do you guys get 'any' ghosting at all on that first link? If not then I'll prob get them to replace it. If you guys are getting the same then I guess it's down to the type of panel used as I have seen the same thing on a 17" NEC too...

PS - could you try putting your brightness to 50 and seeing if the same thing happens? If so guess I need to turn/keep the brightness down..

Try turning the brightness down to 34. It should alter it a bit and make it more like this:

It's better, but still not ideal...

What is everyone else's brightness set to?

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's done it!! (Use Custom PC Colours, turn down to around 90, blue slighter higher maybe).

Now I can increase the brightness back up too :D

Guess I will get the screen calibrated as that should sort it good n proper.

Thanks again for posting 9Zap!
